for soprano soloist, SATB choir, children's unison chorus, and orchestra Carter's work uses the traditional Te Deum words and inserts three additional texts praising God the Father, God the Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ. It makes an exhilaratingly effective choral work for all sorts of choirs which have the opportunity to combine with a children's choir. Andrew Carter (b.1939) Andrew Carter was born in 1939 into a Leicestershire family of tower and handbell ringers. Following a music degree at the University of Leeds, he joined York Minster Choir, and was subsequently Director of Music at the Bar Convent Grammar School, where he achieved his first successes as a choir trainer.
His wealth of experience of directing both mixed-voice and upper-voice choirs has given him a deep understanding of the voice, expressed by a lyricism and sense of drama underpinned by distinctive, often bitter-sweet harmonies. His vast collection of anthems and Christmas carols, together with a substantial number of large-scale choral works, have earned him a reputation as one of Britain's most respected contemporary choral composers.Andrew Carter's website

"There are more riches to come: Andrew Carter's exhilarating Te Deum is also worthy of early perusal . . . Of particular interest to small choral societies, this work will also be welcomed in parishes with adequate musical resources." - Church Music Quarterly, April 97 "It sets the traditional text in four movements, for SATB choir and organ, but intersperses these with para-liturgical settings for children, one of which, 'Holy Spirit, truth divine' is very fetching." - Church Times, July 97 "We continually hear the phrase 'There's nothing new under the sun' - Andrew Carter's Te Deum is. The ancient prayer, rubbed smooth by the centuries, is given a new dimension." - Mel Olson, River City
