for SATB (with divisions) and organ or piano Jesus, Springing is a beautiful and tender carol that sets a text by Kevin Crossley-Holland. Tuneful and imitative vocal lines combine with a gently flowing keyboard part to create a delightful Christmas miniature suitable for choirs of all abilities.
Bob Chilcott (b.1955)
"Commissioned for Harrow School Chapel Choir, Jesus Springing is typical of Chilcotts lyrical and accessible style, suited to parish and school choirs that can sing in four parts and manage divided sopranos. The accompaniment is pianistic in some respects, but actually better suited to the organ and none too difficult. The setting of Kevin Crossley-Holland's poem is strophic, though each verse is scored differently. The music remains in E major: there is not a single accidental, giving a sense of gentle intensity." - Church Music Quarterly, December 2011
