- The complete guide to early years specialty training in anaesthesia
- Covers curriculum-based training requirements examined in the Primary FRCA examination
- Presents material in an easily accessible double-page format to offer structured learning and revision
- Highly illustrated, to augment concise descriptions of key concepts and learning objectives, with the needs of the trainee in mind
Oxford Specialty Training is a specialty revision series for postgraduate trainees, taking into account the training structures and syllabuses newly introduced by the Modernising Medical Careers initiative. Training in Anaesthesia is a curriculum-based guide to the first phase of specialty training in anaesthetics; comprehensively covering the specific techniques, assessments and basic medical and physiological knowledge that trainees are required to learn as part of their basic training. These areas are currently examined by the Primary FRCA exam as part of a
student's progress towards full fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, though the knowledge contained within the book continues to apply throughout all phases of training. The book is authored by both trainees and specialists, and has been comprehensively edited and peer-reviewed by both groups in order to create an authoritative yet accessible text, highlighted and augmented by many of the diagrams and key concepts that a trainee may be expected to reproduce during viva examinations. Novel drug tables convey essential information in a new and attractive form, and the majority of images have been created specifically for this book, avoiding the cliched figures and illustrations reproduced in training texts to date. The organisation of the material is
unique, and the topic-based design ensures easy navigation and structured revision and learning.Readership: Training in Anaesthesia is part of a new series aimed at postgraduate trainees in the United Kingdom. It targets trainees in the current phases of training ST1-ST3, incorporating curriculum-based knowledge appropriate to the current Primary FRCA examination. It will also appeal to Foundation Year trainees, more advanced anaesthesia trainees revising for Final FRCA papers, foreign students studying for UK exams, and all doctors operating within High Dependency and Intensive Care units.

"Overall, this book has many strengths, including the high-quality illustrations, a clear and concise writing style, and providing coverage of a broad breadth of the Primary FRCA curriculum; in addition, it is reasonably priced. It will therefore make a fine addition to any department's library and will no doubt be extensively used by trainees preparing for the Primary FRCA examination." - British Journal of Anaesthesia "'*****'- the new Big Dog on the street...this is the best, post-exam colleagues also agree this is pretty hard to beat when it comes to primary revision. Get it above all others." - Amazon review by Dr. B. C. Burrows "Prof Plums" (Bristol UK) "This is, by far, one of the most
outstanding review books in the field of anesthesiology. It is all one needs to study to review for the ABA (or FRCA) examination." - Doody's Notes "I bought this book a week ago and, as a college tutor, I must say I am extremely impressed!...I am really enjoying browsing through it: to exam candidates who are seeking actual help rather than enjoyment, I think this book will prove to be a real friend (and to those theaching them!). It is also very competitively priced when you consider the amount of detail and the quality of the illustrations." - Dr. Jeremy R. Prout, College Tutor, London "Overall, very useful, reasonably priced and an excellent core text for anaesthetics." - Amazon review
