for SSAATTBB unaccompanied Advent Antiphons is an exquisite concert setting of the Great O Antiphons. Chilcott's writing for double choir is masterful; he embroiders a beautifully-textured work in which echoes of plainchant combine with richly expressive harmony. Without doubt, this is some of Chilcott's finest music: subtle yet potent, haunting and uplifting.
Bob Chilcott (b.1955)
"The music is based on the lovely original plainsong and is often sonorous, mostly readily singable . . . and occasionally impassioned . . . In conclusion, this is thoughful music and, while it will be a challenge to make it effective in performance, it reinforces this composer's growing reputation for craftsmanship and integrity." - Marcus Huxley, Mastersinger, Spring 06
